5 Stars Best I’ve owned
The Nikon D90 is the best camera I’ve ever owned. I currently own a D90 and D700. However, the ease of use, the portability and the utilitarian characteristics are amazing on the D90. The picture quality is equal to professional levels if you learn how to use this camera. I simply took pictures non-stop for six months and began to learn how to adjust settings. While I use the non-automatic settings you can get great pictures using the automatic settings as well despite what the books and critics say. I like nature photography and the fast setting has given me some great shots of birds in flight and animals on the run (horses, coyotes, deer, rabbits, etc). I recommend getting a Nikkor 70-300mm lens for telephoto and a Nikkor Micro 105mm for close-up work. You can use the 70mm-300mm without a tripod because it comes with vibration control. Very nice, indeed. With the 18mm-55mm lens that comes in the kit this is all the lens you will need to cover a wide range of shooting. I have photo’s in galleries from this camera. I am a serious photographer and have read the manuals, books, and watched video’s on this camera. I have also taken some courses on photography in general. While I use the D700 for some of my work I use my D90 for most of what I do. I highly recommend this camera to anyone.

5 Stars Great for the semi-pro
I have a D40 and a D60 and was about to purchase a D5000, but after looking at all the reviews I could find of each model, I chose to add the D90 to my collection…so glad I did. The quality is great for the price, and the pictures are amazing. I have added a wide angle (11-18) lens and I am so impressed with the results. I belong to a retro Thunderbird club, and getting 70 T-Birds in a clear concise photo was a major concern. Even large prints of the pics I took are of poster quality…which means, blown up, much detail can be seen. Great camera!

5 Stars The D90 Rocks!
I am an amateur photographer by far but got tired of missing the great moments waiting for my piece of junk ‘point and shoot’ to figure out that I wanted it to take a picture. After missing every attempted shot at my daughter’s gymnastics meet, I told my wife we are droppin’ some coin on a nice camera. I did a lot of web research reading reviews and talking with friends who had nice cameras. I had to go to Bestbuy to handle a few cameras because Montgomery ALABAMA does not have a single camera store……capital city too! NICE!

Bottomline – this camera does more cool stuff than I had realized. Download the owner’s manual from Nikon and see for yourself. I will not miss a great moment again. I could go into all of the features but others have done a much better job at writing reviews. I have never owned a Nikon nor a dSLR camera for that matter so I really have nothing to compare it to except my crappy ‘point and shoots (misses)’. Try Cameta Camera on eBay because they offer the same package deal as on Amazon but for $40 less. Still a good deal on Amazon with the extra lens, case, battery, etc.

3 Stars After the first 3 days, noticed 3 issues so far…
* Amazon customer service is second to none

* Nikon tech support is very responsive and seems knowledgeable, BUT, they will not tell the truth on certain issues, pretending that they have never heard of it before, which is common practice for most companies anyway, but I wish they would change that.

Aside from the following issues, the camera is perfect in most other respects, and I’m “VERY” picky, when it comes to choosing the right camera for me. I have been in the digital camera accessory business for over 10 years. No camera is perfect, if it was not for these issues, I would’ve given this at least a 4 star.

Here are some of the issues I’ve encountered so far.

Oct 6, 2009

Received first camera from Amazon

————————-

Oct 7, 2009

Shot about 200 pics, received the “F- -” error. Called Nikon, they instructed to remove and reattached the lens, which worked. They stated that it is a known issue, but they do not know the exact cause.

————————-

Oct 8, 2009

I was reviewing a pic, suddenly, I noticed the AF assist lamp was on steadily, not sure for how long before I noticed it, I then pressed a button, forgot which one, the lamp went off, so I didn’t think of it as anything major.

————————-

Oct 9, 2009

After about 500+ pics. I was shooting in HI continuous mode, when I went back to shoot again, the camera would not focus at all and displayed the “ERR” message. I pressed the shutter all the way, just to see what would happen, I did hear the shutter snapping sound, do not remember if it actually took a pic, then it was completely locked up. Called Nikon, they stated if releasing the shutter does not get rid of the “ERR”, return to Nikon for service. I removed the battery and that fixed the problem for now. Called Amazon, they are now sending me a new replacement, even though it seems to be working fine for now, I prefer not coming across any future issues.

Searched online about this “ERR” message and found a good amount of people having experienced the same or similar error problem, one or more times. Some also stated that by removing the battery will fix it every time, but not all have the same result.

I don’t really like seeing so many posts on this “ERR” message, so I’ll wait for the replacement and see what happens. I have two SanDisk Extreme III 8GB cards used for different devices, while I’m waiting, I’ll swap the cards and see if this “ERR” message comes up again.

————————-

Oct 10, 2009

Called Nikon about this “ERR” issue (surprised they were opened on a Saturday), they stated that by removing the battery will work sometime, but not always. They claimed that “IF” I do need to send it in for service, they “WILL” be able to fix the “F- -” and “ERR” errors “FOR SURE” permanently. So far, from some of the posts I’ve read, that seem to be the case, but you may have to wait about 3 weeks to get the camera back (waiting is the tuff part).

Will continue with updates…

5 Stars It’s a D300 for half price.
I had the D300 and loved it until this came out.

The D300 is great, but it can be complicated at times.

The D90 is a D300 in the body of a D70. Sure, there are other features on the D300; metal pro body and seals – but when it comes to speed, handling, and image quality – you will be hard pressed to see a difference.

Buy the D300 to impress people.

Buy the D90 to take awesome photos, and with the money you saved, you can fund that next awesome lens you wanted.

Seriously, it’s that good.

Former D300 owner, have also owned the D80 and D70.

Presently own the D40x, D90 (new – and love), F100 and a FE. Don’t ask me about lenses – I own too many as it is.

ps. I sold my D300 and got the D90.

4 Stars Works Great
I needed something to protect my DSLR without having to lug my camera backpack with all the extra gear around. This works as a nice alternative. Its still bulky, but for the price it works good and gives me some peace of mind while carrying my camera around on trips.

5 Stars Opteka Camera Case
Fits Canon Rebel XTi with the 18-55mm lens like a glove. I bought it to protect the camera while traveling and it does the job.

4 Stars Great case for Canon Rebel XSI
I own a Canon Rebel XSI. I needed a light, portable, and sturdy case. This case is a great buy for the price. I can fit my Rebel with it’s default lens + 1 spare battery like a glove. Nice quality, although dorky looking. But all holster cases look that way. I never leave home without the case in case of bad weather.

4 Stars Good for the price
I bought this case for a Nikon D-70 SLR with a 18 – 70 mm lens. It is a tight fit, but it works.

It is a nice looking case, and you really can’t beat it for $9.99.

It is especially nice to protect your camera if you are taking it along on a trip. Like others have said, there really isn’t room for anything other than the camera and maybe a photo card. Don’t plan to use it for anything else, and you won’t be disappointed.

My only complaint is the zipper. It is hard to operate, and it separated on me. The upside to the zipper is that it is a self fixing zipper – you just have to open it back all the way and it is ready to go.

Overall, I would recommend it… as long as your expectations aren’t too high you will like it.

5 Stars camera case
good construction light weight my camera fits easily in the case, there’s even room for the camera strap.

Canon EF S 18 55mm f 3 5 5 6 IS SLR Lens

Equipped with Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm standard zoom lens is ideal for just about any application. IS technology compensates for camera shake by providing the equivalent effect of a shutter speed up to four stops faster. This allows you to take sharp handheld shots even in low-light conditions–a must for sports and nature photography. The lens also offers an aspherical lens element that corrects for aberration, thus producing a topnotch image throughout the zoom range, and a circular aperture that exquisitely renders out-of-focus backgrounds. Despite its minimal size, weight, and cost, the lens expands the picture-taking possibilities any time slow shutter speeds are needed.

Specifications

  • Focal length: 18 to 55mm
  • Maximum aperture: f/3.5 to f/5.6
  • Lens construction: 11 elements in 9 groups
  • Angle of view: 74 degrees @ 20 feet to 27 degrees @ 50 feet
  • Focus adjustment: Autofocus (DC motor) with manual focus option
  • Closest focusing distance: 9.8 inches
  • Filter size: 58mm
  • Dimensions: 2.7 inches in diameter and 3.33 inches long
  • Weight: 7.1 ounces
  • Warranty: 1 year

5 Stars Not a professional photographer
I know nothing about ISO, shutter speeds, Ring lag etc…I’m so not a professional Photographer far from it. I just set my Canon Rebel to Auto and push the button.

But what I do know is I have a canon 55mm-250mm lens (which cost way More then the canon 18mm-55mm lens) and the 250mm is better at getting far far away shots. But not so great on up close birthday pictures and fast action baseball shots. Were the 18mm-55mm is!!

I use my 18mm-55mm almost all the time. I only pull the 250mm lens out when I have to shot something really far away which isn’t often. I like that the 18mm-55mm is smaller and auto focus is faster compare to the 250mm lens.

When I download my 18-55mm lens pics of my son’s baseball game to his team web page and get emails asking me “who was the photographer that took those great pictures??” me a photographer!! That is all that needs to be said about this lens!!

I don’t think it feels cheap and I don’t care if ISO are slow, etc.. that other reviews complain about. With my 18-55mm lens I get a prefect picture every time, I have never been Disappointed (with my 250mm I have been).

I wonder if maybe some of the people who have trouble with this lens is because you need to leave the ISO and speed alone and just let the camera do all the work; try auto once and awhile. Because I have no problems with getting prefect pictures every time I use auto setting with this lens.

5 Stars Got it to replace the XTi’s kit lens…
So far, I really dig it. I was actually thinking of skipping this lens and buying the next best thing, which would be the 17-40L, but I didn’t have the $700, so I’d be saving up for a few months, and I didn’t want to take another photo with my kit lens. I had just picked up the 50 f/1.8 and realized how horrible the kit lens was at reproducing color, and it was blurry as hell. So far I’m very pleased with the image stabilization, and I’ve heard that the optics are better, but I haven’t played around with it enough to notice (any improvements might just be because it’s a new lens, my kit lens is 3 years old and dusty due to it’s cheap design). But I know that the IS alone will improve my snapshots. Now that I have this lens, I’m not as anxious to take the plunge on an L series lens. I know I will eventually, but I’m not as quick to upgrade now. And if I do, I’m going for the 17-55 f/2.8 which runs for over $1000. But like I said, this lens is keeping me happy for now.

5 Stars Fantastic lens
This is a great lens. I use it for pretty much everything other than birds (I use a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras for that). The only time I had trouble with it was at an aquarium, where the low light meant slow shutter speeds (moving fish + slow shutter speeds = blurry fish). For things that aren’t moving much, in low light I think this lens is better than the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens. I find that f/3.5-f/5.6 with image stabilization is usually superior to f/1.8 without it.

The zoom range (18mm-55mm) is very practical. 18mm is wide enough for landscapes or crowds at concerts, and 55mm is usually long enough.

Although the specifications look similar to the non-IS version that comes with the Rebel XT/XTi, this lens is quite a bit better..

I’ve also done a lot of macro photography by mounting this lens to the camera body backwards (with an adapter I bought for <$15 from another site) and the results are impressive. It's difficult to use since that isn't the intended use, but the pictures are incredible (when your field of view is 1/4th of an inch wide, you can see the individual eyes of a fly, or the hairs on a small spider's leg).

5 Stars Great Product
We enjoy this lens very much. It provides clear photos; maybe I should say sharp images. Recommend for purchase.

4 Stars Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens
It was everything that I thought a Canon camera lens would be! It was simple and quick; just really click and go. I don’t think you need a stabilizer lens for something that is this focus size (18-55mm). It may help with some of the macro shots. So if there is a big price difference you may want to consider the lens without an automatic stabilizer because it can eat up some of your battery and it’s not that helpful.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Good deal, but bag is bulky
This is a great deal. The battery alone can be expensive, but when bundled with a big bag and a Canon UV filter, this doesn’t come out to that bad of a price, even if it may seem expensive at first.

The spare battery is very convenient to have, especially if you hope to travel with your camera.

The UV filter is good, no complaints there.

The bag is very good in that it can hold many lenses and accessories … recently on a vacation I was able to fit my camcorder in the bag in addition to my DSLR and two lenses … but it is a bit bulky for everyday use. You should consider getting a holster bag for when you know you’ll only need one lens.

In conclusion, a great price for the package, but don’t make the mistake I did and think that this bag will be convenient for everyday use. It’s bulky!

5 Stars Camera Bag & Accessories
This Is a very Good bag for any Rebel camera. Well constucted, with plenty of space. I have my Canon Rebel t1i camera, 570 flash, 55-250mm lens, 17-55mm lens, extra batteries, filters, memory cards, and my Canon Powershot camera in this bag and still have room for more. Good padding around the outside and inside to protect it all. A very good bargain with the accessories you get with it.

5 Stars xsi
super camera for the beginner price finally came down. I have large hands not made for large hands

still learning all the bells and whistles. get the 28-135 lenses because the 18-55 that comes with it is not the greastest

5 Stars very happy
Very happy with the this product. The case is just the right size for what I needed. Shipping was great. Product was in perfect condition.

I would puchase again from the seller.

5 Stars Great buy: cheapest on Amazon
I was at the Best Buy ready to purchase this kit. Thankfully, I figured out that it was about $30.00 cheaper through Amazon. I am very happy with the kit. It holds A LOT. So if you are looking to store your extra lenses, etc….this is a great kit. I highly recommend it.
