4 Stars Fill a big hole for D40/40x/60/3000/5000 users
I want to say thank you very much, Amazon team. Your service is so fast. Ordered the lens on Sept 16, delivered on Sept. 18!

For this lens:

Pros:

1) Sharp at wide open, very useful for indoor shooting.

2) Colorful and hight contrast image.

3) Focus fast (not that fast, but enough for me).

4) Light and convenient setup with Nikon entry level DSLRs.

5) Many reviews mentioned purple fringe, but I do not see much. It may depend on what you are shooting.

6) Fill a big hole for AF-S prime lens selection for Nikon D40/40x/60/3000/5000

Cons:

1) A little front focus at wide open on my D60. It is also mentioned by other reviews.

2) The focus ring is a little wiggling which makes me a little nervous about the building quality.

3) I feel the image color is over saturated, like a fake one. But many people like it. I have to set Saturation -1 on my D60.

4) High constrast sometimes make details in shadow lost

I like the image from my 50mm f1.8D more, though I have to manual focus. Finally I decided to return it. Thank Amazon again. Return is so easy with free UPS shipping.

I would like to recommend it to Nikon entry level users, especially those who take more indoor photos (like baby, restaurant food, performance …) where speedlight is not allowed or not suitable.

5 Stars Great lens to compliment my new D3000
I bought a new D3000 with the 18-55mm lens, but my photos were coming out dark or the camera was selecting a high ISO (with lots of noise) or a slow shutter speed (with lots of blur). This lens was the easy answer. At a 1.8, it lets in tons of light so I can shoot indoors without flash at 400 ISO and a reasonable shutter speed. The lack of a zoom really doesn’t effect anything because the camera’s image sensor is detailed enough that I can always zoom and crop on the computer without losing any quality.

The quality of the lens is A+ in my book, although I am a novice. It comes with a hood, a case and real front/back caps.

When I was a photography student back in the film days, we always started with a 50mm lens. On a digital camera, that translates to a 35mm lens.

If you only own one lens in addition to the 18-55 one that came on your camera, this is the one you should own. The f/1.8 makes all the difference in the world.

4 Stars jersey boy
just got this lens a few weeks ago mainly to get sharp pictures of my grand-children and of scenery. So far I can tell this is a very sharp lens and is very light weight and has a fast focus. This was the only reason I bought this lens and so far it is doing the job I wanted.Hopefully it will come in useful for other pictures.I have aNikon d80 camera.

5 Stars Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX
I’ve had this lens for a couple of months and would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a general purpose prime lens.

5 Stars Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX
Easy to use, light, good for both in door & out door. consider SB-400 for even better quality for indoor.

Canon EF 35mm f 2 Wide Angle Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

This lightweight, bright medium wide angle lens deserves a place in every CANON photographer’s gadget bag. With a minimum focusing distance of just 25 centimeters, you can approach the subject closer, and still obtain a natural wide-angle effect. When desired, you can even obtain good background blur for portraits.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Good for the price, great compared to the kit lens
Good lens, sharp on a Canon 50D. When new, the manual focus ring was tight, after two months, it has noticably loosened. Compared to the kit lens, 28-105 IS, the improvement in image quality is extremely clear. Kit lens is now gathering dust. For landscape, the 35mm is quite good, sharp, and I have no problems with contrast or colors. For product photography, this lens shines. F8 to F16 produces fabulous results. Soft wide open, but what lens isn’t. At F18 and above, defraction occurs, I don’t shoot at F20 or above for the most part. I took this lens to a horse show and was amazed at the clarity, from approx. 40 feet away, you can see the individual hairs on the horse. I was impressed. If the manual focus ring wasn’t loosening up a bit, I would give this lens a five star across the board. Will is stand up over time? I’ll budget to replace it when it breaks is all I can say. Recommended for advanced shooters, semi pro and a pro can use it without hesitation if he or she doesn’t want to pop the funds for L glass. Everyday photographers who don’t need the sharpness nor clarity of colors probably won’t need this lens. For the advanced shooter, handheld at ISO 100 with shutter speed at above 100 is fine, I like to keep it at 160 and above for money shots. Autofocus is usually dead on, I haven’t seen a problem with focus issues. Good glass, hope it lasts.

5 Stars Amazing “always-on” lens
I just got this lens today so my review is based on just a couple of hours usage. The lens performs great in low light conditions – both indoors and outdoors. Some people have complained that the bokeh is not smooth – I don’t agree – the bokeh is smooth enough for me and looks very pleasing. I’m stunned by the performance of this tiny beast.

Only dislike is the build – the focus ring is not that smooth and has a very cheap feel. My Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM have a much better build.

4 Stars Great lens for the price
Not long ago, I bought the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 lens to have a fast, roughly standard-length lens for my Rebel XSi (standard taking into account the camera’s 1.6x crop factor, that is). That lens turned out to be a little wider than I wanted, which would have been okay if it didn’t also have terrible problems with chromatic aberration and edge softness. So I decided after a while to give the EF 35mm f/2 a try.

Build quality is toward the low end of Canon’s scale; not as nice as the EF 28mm f/1.8, but not as cheap as the EF 50mm f/1.8 II. It does, at least, have a metal mount and a distance window. Since it doesn’t have USM, it is rather noisy when autofocusing compared to the 28, and full-time manual focus is not available. But at least the focus ring spins freely in auto-focus mode (unlike the 50 f/1.8 II), so you don’t have to worry about damaging the motor by turning it accidentally. Picture quality is quite good; wide open, the center is decently sharp, and the edges not too bad at all; stopped down to f/4, it’s even better.

If you’re looking for a roughly standard-length lens for an APS-C Canon camera without paying the premium price of an L-series lens, and you need something faster than f/2.8, I think this is the one to get.

3 Stars Great lens, but busted after 9 months.
I was very happy with the performance of this lens on my Rebel XSI. It was great for night shots in Venice! With a small sensor camera like the Rebel, I only wish this lens came in a 24mm variety so that I could take better pictures of our plates across the table at dinner. The 24mm f1.4 is amazing, but out of my price range.

Anyway, the lens was great and then suddenly after about 9 months the focus locked up. It wouldn’t auto or manual focus. The focus ring was just locked in place. It was under warranty, so I had it repaired for about $25 in shipping/handling all together. Hopefully it will work well for a while longer.

4 Stars Good lens
This is a good lens. And take nice pictures. After testing it, this lens takes better pictures than the canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L. However as far as I am concerned it is still not wide enough (after 1.6x crop factor) for landscapes. It is also kinda noisy.

4 Stars I am please with my new camera
I purchased this camera for the zoom capability and have been pleased with everything about it. I still am learning about it as I use it, it is user-friendly.

5 Stars super good!
Great camera! Great pics. A littel more than I want to have to do but I like a point and shoot! It’s not much more complicated though.

4 Stars Excellent camera for the price.
EASY TO USE CAMERA WITH A LOT OF AUTOMATIC SETTINGS AND FEATURES; FOR THE EVERYDAY PHOTOGRAPHER WHO WANT’S A BETTER PICTURE THAN TAKEN WITH THOSE LITTLE CAMERAS. I TRIED THIS CAMERA IN DIFERENT LIGHT CONDITIONS INTERIORS AND (GREAT PICS).

I SPECIALY LOVE THE WIDE ANGLE LENS, THE SOON, FOCUS AND BETTER FLASH THAN THE LITTLE CAMERAS.

5 Stars Beautiful pictures
I purchased this camera after much research. I didn’t want an SLR with the camera bag, lenses, etc because I’ve been down that path. I wanted something easier to use and less bulky, but more than a small point and shoot. I also wanted a view finder. I opened the box and immediately liked the way the camera felt in my hands. I played with it a couple of days before going on vacation to really test it out. I Love it! It is so easy to use and takes great pictures. I had several printed and have had people look at them and comment that they need to buy a new camera now that they have seen my pictures. I was amazed at how nice the pics are even in low light conditions. This camera is a good one for the price.

4 Stars Olympus SP-565UZ
I have had the camera for about a month now and am spending a lot of time learning how to use it. It is a liitle smaller than I imagined but as I only have full use of one hand, it is very satisfactory. There are many very nice features, one that I really like is Panorama. It works very well. I especially like the fact that it uses “AA” batteries. Good rechargables give me many pictures and I haven’t run out of power, yet. I normally keep 2 sets of batteries available and after shooting photos, replace the used ones with ones that have been recharged.

I am still undecided about a focusing issue where it doesn’t seem as sharp as it could be but am experimenting with different settings. I guess, time will tell.
